Caring for your hair and hair extensions is essential in the Summer months. Your hair is being exposed to UV rays from the sun, chlorine from those dips in the pool, and salt build-up from your time on the beach. We’ll explain what could potentially damage your hair in the summer months and how to prevent it, to look after those locks.
WHY CAN HAIR EXTENSIONS CHANGE TONE?
We are proud to say that all of our hair extensions are 100% Real Remy Human Hair. However, hair extensions are not attached directly to the scalp, this means they are more porous and don’t receive the natural nutrients that hair usually would - this can make them prone to discolouration when exposed to specific triggers. UV Rays, Chlorine and Seawater can lead to discolouration of your hair extensions, as they strip away the ash tones. HOW CAN SUNSCREEN AFFECT YOUR HAIR?
With the warmer weather coming, we know that we of course need to start wearing sunscreen more regularly to protect our skin. But, it’s important to avoid any contact between your sunscreen and hair, we’ll explain why…
The very scientific reason is that sunscreen contains two main ingredients: Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane) and Octocrylene - when combined with hair extensions and UV rays, it can cause a chemical reaction which can break our hair cells down. When you then come to rinse your hair after a long day in the sun, minerals like Iron and Copper from the water are going to attach to your hair cells, causing a pink or orange shade in hair extensions. Make sure to check the ingredients list and use specially designed hair products this summer to avoid peachy hair!
Instead, opt for our UV Spray. UV Spray is like SPF for your hair - it is going to help to minimise colour fade, and protect from heat damage and dryness. It is your invisible shield to the sun!
WHAT TO AVOID:
UV RAYS
UV rays from the sun can be damaging to our hair and skin. The best way to protect your hair from UV rays to avoid it becoming dry or damaged is to cover your hair - whether that is using your favourite beach hat or a cute headscarf, this is going to stop the UV rays from getting to your hair.
CHLORINE
When hair is exposed to chlorine, your hair becomes stripped of its natural oils, which can cause dry and brittle hair. Chlorine also strips your hair of its colour, and this could create a green tint in blonde hair. We need to protect our hair from this!
We encourage you to avoid putting your hair in the water - style your hair into a cute braid to keep it away from the chlorine, plus it will save you having to wash your hair constantly on holiday!
SEA SALT
Salt can make your natural hair and extensions dry and dehydrated, making your hair feel brittle and harder to brush. As much as we love the look of beachy waves, we think it’s better to achieve this look using our Waver or Jumbo Waver. The perfect solution to long-lasting and frizz-free beach waves, without damaging saltwater. Look at the waves you can achieve without needing to go into the sea!
Use the same technique as with chlorine, and tie that hair up! Try to keep it out of the water.
