Professional hair extensions offer a long-lasting way to address your hair concerns and improve your confidence with thicker and fuller hair. We offer only the most natural and highest quality 100% Real Remy human hair professional extensions. Which is why it’s SO important to follow the recommended aftercare advice. Beauty Works professional hair extensions can last between 6-12 months when cared for correctly, with maintenance appointments every 6-12 weeks depending on the method. Easily maintain your dream hair throughout its lifespan, by following the simple steps & advice below.
The basics
Unlike your natural hair, hair extensions don’t have a direct supply of nutrients, vitamins or minerals so understandably they will require more maintenance and after care than your own natural hair. Blonde shades will require a little more maintenance than darker shades as they go through more of a process to achieve those dreamy blonde tones that we offer.
Haircare
No one understands hair extensions better than Beauty Works. Our 10+ years of experience in the industry has allowed us to develop a range of award-winning salon professional haircare, specifically designed to nourish your extensions, with carefully considered products to be used on different methods. Beauty Works Pearl Nourishing Sulfate Free Shampoo should be used with the professional ranges, Stick Tip, Nanobond®, Tape and Flat Tip as Sulfates will break down the bond and could affect the integrity of the Micro ring or Keratin securing the hair extensions in place. Beauty Works Pearl Nourishing Shampoo (contains sulfates) should be used on Wefts, in order to eliminate any excess product build up that can occur with this method.
TIP 1: Brushing
To keep your Professional Extensions in the best possible condition, regular brushing is essential. Looking for the best brush for your extensions? Shop our range of Hair Brushes, designed to glide through hair without damaging extensions. We recommend planning some daily me-time into your self care routine to brush your hair throughout the day. As well as leaving yourself an extra 5 minutes at night to brush your hair and put it in a braid before going to sleep.
When brushing your extensions, try to do it as gently as possible! Professional extensions are attached to your natural hair, so pulling them could result in pulling out your own hair. We suggest to start brushing your hair from the bottom and then moving slowly to the top whilst holding your hair extensions at the top so you’re not pulling on them too much.
TIP 2: how to neutralise tones
Changes in the tone of your hair extensions can occur over time when your hair is exposed to elements that have that ability to lift or fade hair colour (UV rays, chlorine, iron water, sun cream and even heated tools over time). The technical explanation for this is: as colour fades, an imbalance of colour molecules is left in the hair’s cortex and brassy tones will shine through.
Luckily, we have developed products that have been designed to clarify the hair and neutralise the tones that may have been stripped out. Beauty Works Anti-Yellow Shampoo or Beauty Works Brass Banish Mask can neutralise yellow & brassy tones to reduce the appearance of discolouration, whilst giving shine to dull hair. For brunette shades that have turned warm, the Beauty Works Cool Covers Mask formula works to neutralise the warmer reflection of copper and red tones, leaving a cooler tone. So don’t worry if your hair needs some rejuvenation, we’ve got you babe.
TIP 3: restoring moisture
Knowing that hair extensions don’t have their own direct supply of nutrients, we’ve created the most moisturising haircare products to keep your hair feeling super soft & smooth. Use our best-selling Beauty Works Argan Oil Serum regularly and Beauty Works Pearl Nourishing Mask weekly for a deep conditioning treatment, to maintain that moisture and shine.
TIP 4: heat protection
We all know that heat is bad for our natural hair, so unfortunately it’s the same for our extensions. Heat from excessive styling and the sun can cause hair to become dry/damaged and may even cause a change in the colour of the hair. Just remember to always use a Heat Protection Spray when drying and styling the hair to avoid heat damage.
Heat doesn’t just come from styling tools. Hot climates and the sun can also cause heat damage! To protect your hair from this, use Beauty Works 10-in-1 Miracle Spray after washing your hair as it has been developed to protect hair from UV rays ( it will also give your hair a gorgeous shine). To help block sun exposure, we recommend braiding your hair and spritzing on some Beauty Works Molly-Mae UV spray before heading out. For extra protection, find a cute hat to wear when you’re out in the sun to reduce your hair’s exposure to strong UV rays.
TIP 5: Rinse and dry extensions properly
When washing your hair extensions there are a few things to remember. The first thing is to avoid product build up by making sure to thoroughly rinse your extensions after washing. Otherwise product can build up and make the hair extensions sticky or waxy and knot. Secondly, make sure to never leave extensions to dry naturally, always blow dry (trust us).
That’s the lowdown! Your professional hair extensions can be easily maintained by following these top tips and using the correct Beauty Works aftercare.
